Last Saturday, the vet told us she was on "hospice" care, and we just needed to make her as comfortable as possible, that she was just old and wearing down. Something happened yesterday that made her wear down fast. She was up all night panting, and her breath was exceptionally shallow and odd sounding, as though she were breathing into a plastic tube. She couldn't walk, and when she lay down, she was in pain, so it was a loooooong night.
Turns out she had torn one of her lungs and it was filled with fluid, thus the crazy breathing. Dr. Kyle, our amazing vet, said it was definitely time. Greg and I feel we made the right decision, and although we were incredibly sad, we know it was for the best, and she is now chasing all the squirrels she was too old to chase, and eating as much deer poop as she wishes. :o)
About a week and a half ago, I found her laying on the floor in the baby's room. Since she never goes down that hallway, it was rather strange. Of course I think she knew her time was coming, and knew she'd be missing out on something big, so she wanted to make sure the baby felt her presence.
Also last night, while at Target looking through baby name books, one particular book had "sister" and "brother" names for each name. The name we have picked for a girl had 4 "sister" names, one being "Zoe." Even the "brother" names included one of the boy names we picked. Some sort of sign, I'm sure. :o)
So, so long Green Bean. :o) We'll miss your ability to love absolutely everyone.
